We have been waiting for this. Finally, the list of languages has been updated in the App Store, there are 9 new localizations for your attention:
What does it mean for mobile app developers?
As you all know, there is a notion of main and additional languages in a country in App Store. For user, this means that depending on language settings on their device, they will be seeing different application pages and different meta data, specifically Name, Subtitle, Advertisement text, Description, Screenshots, and Preview; for developers, this means that during your application’s indexing with App Store’s engine, it is going to include both textual indexed fields from the main language and from the additional ones. For example, the main language in Russia is Russian, while additional are UK English, Australian English, and recently Ukrainian.
1. If you are interested in users from Hungary, Czech, Croatia, Ukraine, Romania and other countries that now have their own main localization, it is time to renew their application pages and perform ASO, using ASOdesk, for example. This will enhance conversion to your app’s installation, since a local user is going to see information in their own language. Also, the number of search queries in these countries in native languages, for which your application will be shown, is going to increase. Before that, App Store’s search engine in these countries has only been looking at UK English and Australian English localizations;
2. Russia has been added with a new additional language – Ukrainian. Now, in case of Russia, your search optimization tasks are going to include working on Russian (main language), UK English, Australian English, and Ukrainian (additional language). This means that you now have additional 160 characters (30 for Name, 30 for Subtitle, 100 for Keywords) for introducing the necessary search queries.
